What Is Peptide Lyophilization?
Lyophilization (freeze-drying) is a dehydration process in which a peptide solution is frozen and then subjected to a high vacuum, causing the ice to sublimate directly from solid to vapour without passing through a liquid phase. The result is a dry, porous powder (the lyophilized cake) that retains the peptide's molecular structure and can be reconstituted with a diluent at the point of use.
Lyophilized peptides are significantly more stable than liquid formulations, making lyophilization the preferred manufacturing process for peptides with stability challenges, long supply chains, or markets with limited cold-chain infrastructure.
